2018!

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and have enjoyed the holiday season.

As the new year approaches It's a good time to reflect on the year, what you've achieved and what you've learnt. Here are some of the things I've learnt in 2017....

No matter what goes wrong you have to suck it up and keep going! Swallow your pride and make those tough calls when necessary. Pick yourself up, dust yourself down and keep going.

Self belief is everything! Although in business it matters what your audience think what really matters is how you value and see yourself.

Parenting and running a business is TOUGH. At times I feel like I'm failing miserably at both but I know I can't be a stay at home mum, that's my truth. I keep trying every day to do the best I can at both things.

Be careful who you trust. Sadly people will let you down. Learn and choose carefully who your really put your trust in. And keep those you know who really care and love you close.

Life is too short to be unhappy. Draining relationships/friendships - just let them go.

Keep doing what you love! Never a year goes by when I doubt what my passion is, and I'm thankful for that.

So there are some of my lessons from 2017!

I've had full year of work, dancing, shows, and watching my baby grow into a little boy.
We've worked with some amazing Schools both primary and secondary and had a wonderful summer show as part of IYAF as well as going to Britain's Got talent in November.

I'm looking forward to 2018 as we celebrate our Ten year anniversary. The year will get off to a super busy start as We begin production work and open more new classes. I will also be working with Lady Margaret School in Fulham on their February dance event so it's going to be a busy few months!

I want to sign off by saying thank you to all of those who have supported us this last year including our pupils and their families. Thanks to David Lloyd Kingston, Nuffield Health Cheam and the Kingston Academy School.

Wishing you and your families a very Happy New Year!

Se you on the other side,

Emily X

1st December

Happy Advent everyone!

As I write this I'm thinking about the list of things to do before I can to bed;
Pack gym bag so can try and get there for 7am so actually manage a workout this week.
Organise Uniforms/Booking forms/Choreo and vocal arrangements for the morning classes
Cash and suitable Tombola prize for my sons Christmas fair which starts tomorrow at midday.

This is familiar to so many Mums and Dads right now who have kids and a job but it doesn't make the struggle any easier! I want to curl up with a glass (or bottle) of mulled wine and browse Net-a-Porter and Sweaty Betty for all of the things I can't afford. Maybe on the 25th December.
(Who am I Kidding?)

Meanwhile there have been some exciting things happening for us at Dynamic Dance Studios which have included a Children in Need fundraiser and a trip to Britain's Got Talent last weekend!

We decided very last minute to attend the London auditions and my little girls (I say little and they actually are, 6-8 years and tiny things!) did a superb job and had an absolutely amazing day! We got through two rounds of auditions, did lots of filming and met some awesome and interesting people. I hope we won't be hanging up our gold shorts yet and we will go back in February'18 for the next stage! Please keep everything crossed for us, the kids deserve it and would certainly make for good TV.  They are entertaining, fierce and their energy is insane!

Thanks to the parents and kids at our Cheam classes who made and bought cakes last week all for Children in Need! Big well done.

Speaking of cakes the last few months my own fitness routine has been pretty poor compared to usual. Bugs, the cold weather and fatigue have gotten me but I am trying hard to keep exercising and want to say a special thanks the Sweat Society in Surbiton for my one month pass! They not only offer Bikram and hot yoga but also awesome HIT classes. Check them out www.thesweatsociety.co.uk

I also want to thank Nuffield Health Cheam and David Lloyd Kingston for the extra studios time in prep for the BGT auditions and of course for being our homes throughout the year. Definitely check out their membership packages if you live local and of course book a trial for one of our classes for your budding star!

Our Spring 2018 timetable is now live at www.dynamicdancestudios.co.uk/timetable
We are looking forward to an exciting year celebrating Ten years of Dynamic Dance! I'm looking forward to marking this milestone and looking back at all we've achieved.

Wishing you all a great December! Stay warm and enjoy the festivities,

Emily X

The Fit Life

I hope you're all enjoying the start to autumn. It has arrived a little early but I do love autumn. I even gave in and had my first pumpkin spiced latte of the season from Starbucks this week!

It gets harder staying fit as the nights and morning are darker. I for one don't enjoy those early morning runs in the cold so I hit the gym instead or better still Bikram Yoga! (you really can't get much warmer than that)
Dance is of course an amazing way to stay fit! You can join our brand new Adult street/jazz class Kingston on Wednesday's this autumn. This class is for ages 18 and over suitable for all levels. It will include stretching and conditioning as well learning some cool dance routines. Contact me to book a place and check out our full autumn timetable

There are many benefits of taking regular dance classes for children including increased flexibility, range of motion, physical strength and stamina. The repetitive movements involved in dance can improve muscle tone, correct poor posture, increase balance and coordination and improve overall fitness. One of the other benefits is increased confidence and social skills which will benefit children moving forwards in all areas of their life.

Our new musical theatre School will definitely help with increased confidence! We are very excited to be opening our NEW Musical Theatre School this term at the Kingston Academy which is a superb location and has amazing facilities. We will cover all three areas of musical theatre performance within one class; Dance, singing and drama and offer performance opportunities to students.
Competition!
We are offering one FREE full term place to a deserving pupil!
Book a free trial class for next Saturday 23rd September and apply for the Free scholarship place.
Classes are for boys and girls aged 4-16 years.

It's not too late to book in for any of our classes for this term, contact me emilydynamic@gmail.com

Enjoy your Sunday everyone. I'm off to Jellybugs soft play now with my little man whilst he runs crazy and I enjoy a nice big coffee!

Schools out for summer, but where has the sunshine gone?! Hopefully it will be back soon as like all of the other families we are looking forward to the holidays and doing fun outdoorsy stuff|!

All of our regular classes are now on summer break and will recommence in September. We had a fantastic finish to the School year with our performance of Toybox as part of IYAF (International Youth Arts Festival Kingston) We were part of the International Dance Showcase and also took part in the parade through Kingston to mark the festival. It was wonderful to be a part of something that was bigger than our Dance school and celebrated the Arts with so many diverse performances. Check out http://iyafestival.org.uk/
There are tons of great photographs from the festival on the Facebook page

Summer

It's been ages since I last blogged and I feel bad as I love sharing our news with everyone!

I hope you're all having a great summer so far and you are keeping cool in the heatwave. We have been literally melting in the studio during classes and rehearsals! Long may it continue.

We are having a super busy summer term so far. We will be performing our Toybox piece at the IYAF Dance showcase on 10th July at the Arthur Cotterel Theatre in Kingston. Pupils are working hard during classes and rehearsals to present a good piece which reflects the abilities of our students and it will be an entertaining piece for families to enjoy.

You can book tickets at
https://www.rosetheatrekingston.org/whats-on/international-dance-showcase

I've had a busy time providing workshops recently including flamenco at Tolworth girls, Musical Theatre at Eddie Catz and we have Street Dance and jazz workshops coming up at several Schools durirng National sports week. It's not too late to book a workshop with us! Contact me for more info
emilydynamic@gmail.com
We cover Schools and nurseries in London and Surrey.

Booking will be open for the Autumn term from the beginning of July. We have Dynamic Dance Tots for Toddlers, Tap classes, Stretch and Conditioning, Musical Theatre and of course our Dynamic Original class which covers all modern dance and performance styles. Look out for the early bird discount price!

I want to mention the tragedies that have hit London recently. The fire at Grenfell Tower hit everyone hard last week and my thoughts and prayers have been with the those who sadly lost lives, their families and those who have lost their homes. Support the local events to you who are raising money for the victims where you can. The Grenfell single is also a good way to support-

Shoot #2017!

I'm so excited that spring is finally here! I'm sure I'm not the only one dreaming of a hot beach with a cocktail in my hand whilst the kids play on the sand...

Before all of that comes we have an exciting summer term ahead and we had a fantastic photo shoot last weekend at Dance attic studios! I've been planning another photo shoot for a while and we had the talented Helen Marsden shoot for us. Helen is superb photographer who has a diverse portfolio as well as owning her own photography studio Kingston upon Thames. Helen was able to capture exactly what we offer at Dynamic Dance through class, rehearsal and performance shots and brought out the best in all of the dancers by making them feel relaxed and confident.

Helen also took some great improvisation shots of me. It's the first shoot I've done since I had my son so I was feeling a little less confident than a few years back! I did prepare by doing some extra gym sessions and eating a low fat, low carb diet the week before the shoot which definitely helped. I also have to admit I've had some expert post natal help by Rachel Law who is superb PT.
Our new images will be released next week!

In other news we will be part of IYAF this year (International Youth Arts Festival Kingston) which is great opportunity for us. We will be part of the dance showcase at the Arthur Cotterel Theatre on July 10th and our performance is titled 'Toy box'. This will showcase the different dance genres we offer through our studio and the children are working hard on the piece. Tickets will be available soon on the Rose Theatre website and I'll be posting more details closer to the time.

We will be announcing our 2017 summer school soon so watch out for info on that!

Wishing you all a great weekend,

Emily X

Spring in my step

It's almost spring and this year for me is all about positivity, finding a good work/home life balance and time for the things I enjoy.

Last year was manic with a business and a baby it feels you barely have a minute to take care of yourself. Reading a book, taking a class in London and chilling in the spa after a workout are all things of the past. My little boy is growing up and as he gets faster life seems to get faster!

I had a chat with a good friend today about the effects of a positive mindset and it's definitely the best way to make the most of life and enjoy the things you have so here are my three things I'm grateful for today!

Family
I've been blessed with a wonderful Mum who turns 65 next week. My Dad sadly passed away four years ago. Mum, or Mam as we say up north was a quiet but strong supporter of my dance passion from the age of four when I had my first pair of second hand tap shoes! My parents made sacrifices for all of us to have the things we needed and gave us a grounded upbringing. I have two brothers, three nephews and one niece who I don't see often but I'm grateful for all the same. I'm blessed to have my own little family now and I'm still overwhelmed by the love I have for my son every day.

Dance

From the first time I set foot in a dance classes knew it was where I wanted to be. Over the years I've had some great experiences performing and then of course came my passion for teaching and the business I now have. I've made some wonderful friendships through dance over the years. It's not all about numbers or success for me, it's about how much I enjoy watching a piece of dance in the theatre, online or in the street, how alive it makes me feel and how I enjoy sharing it with others. From dance stems my desire to be active and fit. When I have daily struggles that come with running a business I remember it's about doing what you love and how lucky I am to do that.

Loyal friends

My close friends are like family to me. I've always kept my circle quite small and many of my friends I've had since I was teenager. My close friends have helped me through the tough times, through grief, through broken relationship and supported me in my work. I've made good Friends through dynamic dance some of whom even visited me in hospital when my son was born. I've made new friends on my journey into motherhood and I love and cherish all of them.

This is a great exercise to do daily or even weekly if you can!

All is going well at our studios so far in 2017. We are enjoying working with primary and secondary Schools and have had workshops and performances already.

I'm looking forward to a busy year where I will  be enjoying each day and each class and remembering its all about dance.

Wishing you all a great weekend,

Emily X
